Tips and Advice for Drivers

Intro to Regular Vehicle Maintenance

Have you had your vehicle checked out to ensure it is in proper running condition? Maintaining a car is vitally important. If you properly maintain your vehicle then you will have the comfort of knowing that your vehicle is performing at its best and will last you a long time.

There are many things that should be checked and maintained on a regular basis. Most of the maintenance tasks are relatively easy and quick. There are many checks that you can do yourself without having to pay a mechanic. For instance – checking your tire pressure, changing your wiper blades, checking the oil, and making sure that all fluids are at a correct level are all easy things you can do to get a longer life out of your vehicle.

It is important to know exactly what should be maintained on a vehicle. Some of us think that if the car runs after putting gas in and there are no “squeaks” that we are in good shape and can drive on. Don’t assume this to be true. It is important to have many things maintained on a regular basis.

If you take your vehicle into a maintenance shop to get an overall checkup, make sure that all of the following are checked: air conditioning, battery, brakes, window washer fluid is full, transmission, engine, and finally the radiator/cooling system. If you’re planning to travel in your vehicle for a vacation, business trip, or any other reason, it is vitally important to have a maintenance check on your vehicle so you have no problems once you head out.

Tire pressure is also important. You probably assume that the pressure in your vehicles tires is fine because you have no problems. Driving in different weather conditions (i.e. ice, rain, etc) can be dangerous if your tires are not at the right pressure level. Again, don’t assume. It takes a few minutes of your time to check the pressure in your tires.

Owning a vehicle comes with more responsibilities than just making a payment each month. You need to properly maintain your vehicle to avoid any major problems that could lead to costly repairs – and you without a vehicle!
